Some time towards 1890 the family changed to "St Augustine's" C of E at Merewether, only the marriage records are available for this church.

In the Federal Directory of Newcastle & District 1901 page 180/181 Religions. William Gregory was a Lay Representative for the Parish of Merewether in the 3 session of the Twelfth synod of the Diocese of Newcastle held at Newcastle in May, 1900. - (You might already have this information). I've asked Maree if there's anything to confirm it was "our William" (1839 - 1931)

RE: Vial. On Patrick & Sarah wedding certif. his parents listed as George Vial & Mary Linham. Patrick born Hunter River , age 44 in 1893 = born about 1849 No record of birth of Patrick Vial/Vile on BDM. A George Vile & Mary Lynham married Newcatle Rom.Catholic Reg. 28.11.1842 Permission to Marry 1842 - Vile, George, 32, Ship-Mangles 8, Sentence 7 years, Status-ticket of leave. Lynham, Mary, 18, ship-Royal Sovereigh, Status-Free. This is all I have on the Vial's at this stage. I need to investigate further.

MRS. G.P. VIAL

The death took place at Hamilton on Sunday last of Mrs. Sarah L. Vial, relict of the late Mr. G.P. Vial, after a short illness. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Gregory of Newcastle, and a sister of Mr. R.G. Gregory of Tarro. She was widely known throughout the William Town district and was 77 years of age. Always of a kindly disposition and on her many frequent visits to friends in the Williamtown district her willing services were often availed of. She is survived by a family of four daughters: Mrs. G. Morris, Anna Bay: Mrs. W. King, Sydney: Mrs. K. Waller, Hamilton South: and Mrs. F. Crow, Lochinvar.

The funeral took place at Sandgate Cemetery, on Monday afternoon last to the Church of England portion. The Rev. A. Holmes conducted the service at the house and also at the graveside.
