Text:

EULOGY: Edmund Jarzabek was born on the 22nd of September 1922 in Warsaw, Poland. He grew up in the care of his parents, Anthony and Maria, with his elder brother Stanislaw and younger sister Krystina. Edmunds' parents I raised their family with the Catholic faith. It is clear to his family and friends in Australia that they passed on to him that which we cherished in him so greatly - a strong sense of love and respect for family.

When the Second World War began, the occupation of Warsaw was resisted strongly by the Polish people. Edmund changed then from a boy of sixteen, at first pleased that the holidays had been extended, to become a strong member of the resistance group. His family in Poland have shared with us their pride in his brave actions.

Edmund did not easily share these experiences with his family in Australia. The horror of war marked Edmund's passage from childhood to adulthood and stayed in his memory, underlying his perceptions of the world and shaping his beliefs.

After the war Edmund began to build a new life in England where he met Shirley. After travelling with her to Australia they married in 1954. Edmund was welcomed by his new family and his charm and character gained the love and respect of all who knew him well. Edmund's love and care for his mother and father in-law was deep, genuine and reciprocated. He was a faithfull and constant husband and partner to Shirley for thirty-six years.

Edmund worked hard to support his wife and three children, Kathryn, Louise and Vanda. Edmund had high expectations of his daughters and brought them up with the care, love and concern that was typical of his own upbringing.

For Edmund, as for most parents, parenting was frequently a dilema between the head and the heart. If his daughters ever failed to meet his expectations his forgiveness and love always healed any rift.

Edmund had high standards and principles. He expected to find the same high principles in others and believed in the basic goodness of human nature. He was never lavish with praise, because he expected people do their best and be good. His words ofkindness and encouragement were always precious and genuine.

Although Edmund's health was poor for many years he always worked hard to provide well for his family and participate in family life.

EDMUND WAS DEARLY LOVED AND WILL BE SADLY MISSED.
