In part:

"Mary Hosegood & William Chapman had I think from memory, 3 children the oldest being Emmilene (Emma) who after Williams death was bought up by the Cory family (Edward & Frances) there is talk that Emma was not the child of William but of one of the Cory's. Edward was Mary's & Williams employer, they came out to Australia with the Cory Family as their servants. Apparently the marriage of Mary to William was arranged to avoid a scandal. Only heresay at present but this came to me direct from Ida Mcleod the author of the books I told you about. But it is strange to say the least that upon the death of William Emma was moved to the Cory household and was treated as their daughter, they took her back to England for a trip for several years, Fanny (Frances) & Emma returned to Australia about 7 years later, before Edwards return, Emma married a relative of Fanny's who came out to Australia a few years after their return Emma returned to England with her husband where they are buried. The Edward Cory's were quite well know land owners if you google his name there is heaps of info. as is John Pendergast too, as you said it's amazing the connections of family to each other."
